Police Blotter


July 23, 7:45 a.m., Burglary, 600 block of Mississippi:  Entry was made through a bedroom window, with a camcorder, camera, game console and an Apple laptop stolen.

July 23, 3 a.m., Stolen Property, 800 block of Rhode Island:  Officers Balingit and Macias responded to a call regarding a person stealing mail from mailboxes.  The officers obtained a suspect description, and subsequently located the suspect and recovered numerous pieces of stolen mail from him.  The suspect was arrested and transported to the Bayview Station for processing.

July 22, 9:15 p.m., 26th and Wisconsin streets:  Officers Macias and Balingit responded to call regarding a Muni bus with a bullet hole in it.  The bus driver told the officers that he was driving through Potrero Hill when he heard a glass window on the bus break, but no gun shots. No one was on the bus, or injured during the shooting. It’s believed that that the hole may have come from a pellet gun.  No suspect was located.

July 22, 12:30 p.m., Burglary, 16th and Rhode Island streets: Entry was made through front door of a store during business hours. A personal inhaler, earrings and camera were stolen.  No one was injured during the theft.

July 19, 7:21 a.m., Homicide with a Gun, Industrial and Bayshore:  Numerous Bayview Station officers responded to a call regarding a shooting.  The officers spoke with witnesses who heard the shots and saw the victim get off of a motorcycle, run to the sidewalk on Bayshore and collapse to the ground.  The witnesses approached the victim to render aid, and realized he’d been shot in the chest.  The victim spoke with the paramedics, but wouldn’t speak with officers regarding who shot him. The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Officers searched the area for a possible suspect and vehicle, to no avail.

July 19, 12:50 pm., Shooting into a House, 800 block of Arkansas:  Officer Hope and Training Officer Neves responded to a call regarding a shooting. The officers spoke with the victim, who stated that there was a bullet hole through the window in the upstairs portion of his residence.  A second victim stated that he was awakened by the sound of gun fire and glass breaking.  Both victims realized the damage was caused by gun fire the next morning.  Officers made a note of the bullet hole and collected the casing.  While nobody was injured, the bullet had traveled and lodged into the sheetrock wall,  which adjoined the room where the victim had been sleeping when the shooting occurred.

July 17, 11:18 a.m., Driving Reckless:  Officers Farrell and Cooper were in the area of 24th Street and Potrero Avenue when they saw a vehicle traveling at a high speed rate.  The officers stopped the vehicle at the Alemany exit, and identified the driver by his California driver’s license.  The officers placed the driver under arrest for reckless driving, and cited him for a future court date.

July 16, 10:45 p.m., Carjacking with Force:  Officer Ferraresi was working station duty when a citizen came in to report that he was a carjacking victim.  The victim stated that he was leaving a store on San Bruno when an unknown suspect came up to him and, while simulating a weapon in his pocket, demanded his car keys.  The victim complied, and the suspect got in the car and drove off.  The vehicle was later found by the victim in another location with damage to the front end, indicating the vehicle had been in a collision

July 16, 12:15 p.m., Aggravated Assault with a Gun, 800 block of Missouri:  Officer Byrne and Training Officer Lane responded to the area of Missouri and Watchman Way regarding a shooting incident.  The officers spoke with the victim, who told them that he’d just been shot in the hip.  The officers called for a medic, who responded and treated the victim.  While the medic was on scene, three other victims came forward to be treated for gunshot wounds as well.  Soon after, two more victims were found with gun shot wounds.  All were treated at the scene. Sergeant Brown of the Gang Task Force responded to the scene and took over the investigation.

July 15, 6:38 p.m., 2000 block of San Bruno:  Officers Reiter and Pheng responded to a robbery call.  The officers spoke with the victim, who told them that two unknown suspects had stolen his iPod while he was inside Walgreens. The suspects asked to see the iPod and said they wanted to buy it from the victim.  The victim declined the offer, at which time one of the suspects grabbed the iPod out of the victim’s hand and ran out of the store.  The suspects weren’t located. The victim wasn’t harmed.

July 12, 8:45 p.m., Aggravated Assault with a Weapon, 800 block of Terry Francois:  Officers Cowhig and Ortiz responded to a report of a hit and run injury-accident.  The officers spoke with the victims, who stated that they didn’t need medical attention, but that they’d argued with the suspect regarding a homeless person. The suspect got into his car, reversed out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed and attempted to run them over.  The victims jumped out of the way to avoid being hit by the car.  The suspect walked back to the area where the victims were talking with police and was placed under arrest.

July 7, 1:51 a.m., Burglary, 800 block of Terry Francois:  Officers McNamara and Lane responded to an alarm.  The officers gained access to the building via the owner, who arrived soon after.  Officers did not find any suspects, but found that the rear sliding glass door had been forced open and several pry marks on the frame of the door.  The screen door had been removed and was leaning against the railing.  One laptop was stolen from the business.  

July 4, 3 p.m., Shooting into an Inhabited Dwelling, 1200 block of Pennsylvania: Officer Rivera and Training Officer Whitney responded to Pennsylvania Street regarding a possible shooting into a building.  Officers spoke with the victim, who told them that he found a bullet hole in the building’s wall.  Officers collected the casing.  No one was hurt during the incident.

July 4, 12:01 a.m., 700 block of Kansas Street:  Victims were robbed at gunpoint, losing a purse.  There were no injuries.  Suspects were not located.

July 1, 9 p.m., Robbery, Attempted With a Gun, Aggravated Assault With Force: Officers Gummo and Graves were in the area of Potrero Avenue, near San General Hospital, responding to a call about a man with a cut to his eye who’d just been robbed at Hudson and Ingalls streets.  Officers spoke with the victim, who told them that he was walking on Ingalls when three unknown suspects approached and pointed a semi-automatic gun at him, while demanding his money.  The suspect who was holding the gun then struck the victim three times, once on his head, once above his left eye and once above his right eye.  The victim fell to the ground, and the suspect went through his pockets, stealing all of his money. The victim received medical treatment at the scene.  Officers searched for the suspects, to no avail.
